BROKEN WINDOW
Today [11 Jan 2011], i was going in my office bus as usual.
Just like all the other days, i occupied the 4th row seat left side to the driver. When it was 7 Am, the bus started and couple more of my colleagues got into it. One of them sat next to me. For my surprise the row next to me [ 3 seater ] was completely empty but the bus was jam packed in all the seats. The reason was the WINDOW GLASS opposite to my right was broken and since it was a cold morning, nobody could sit there while the bus is moving, because it blows a cold air which feels unconfortable while travelling. Also, below the seat there was a cardboard lying which had just flipped from the window, which supposed to be a temporary fix to that broken WINDOW GLASS.
When the bus speed to 60km/H, the girl next to me got up from my seat and adjusted in the corner somewhere in the first seat since the cold air coming from the bus was disturbibg her.
Few of my colleagues, who just passed my seat saw that the window glass is broken and hence they moved to back seaters and they didnt not try to fix it and sit there easily.
And Me, even though i know that there is a cardboard lying down which i can fix , i didnt do it because the broken WINDOW GLASS and the cold air was not disturbing me. So i ignored it, because it is not at all a problem for me.
Later say after 30 min, one senior colleague came down, fixed the broken WINDOW GLASS with the cardboard and sat easily and confortabley in the seat next to the broken window. I also felt bit warmth and confortable and i thanked him in my mind.
But, after another 10 min, the cardboard fell down because of excess wind and this time the person who fixed it didnt attempt to fix it, instead he left the seat and went back to his orignal place..
The incident i explained you is just a very small and basic which we see in every aspects of our day to day life. You might be wondering what is so special in this incident..to be shared with you!!!.
Yes offcourse.. this is not a special.. this is a common incident where we people have to insight and think practically..i think u will agree if you read below..
Here, the BUS is our society/country/state and the DRIVER is our Leader.
We all are the citizens or part of this society..
The broken WINDOW GLASS is a Problem that has occured in our society. A very common problem. [ may be a fallen tree on a road, a accident, uncleaned area near ur house, uncivilized activities at public places etc ]
The driver cannot fix the broken window, because he is driving currently and he has already requested for the third party vendor. Similarly our Leader/Govt cant clean the problem instantly, but he or she would have requested or raised concerns for this problem. If he has not we have to let him know where and what is the problem. He will fix it, it will take its own sweet time..
The girl who got up from the seat becuase of the broken WINDOW GLASS and adjusting in a corner of other seat... is those group of people who has the problem, but donot raise there voice against it, instead adjust to the surrounding itself and live with the problem. These people are everywhere.ex eventhought the uncleaned area is smelling badly at your place, you would curse the smell but dont take action to fix it. Instead as days go on you try to adjust with it. So the problem is not fixed [ are you you one among them ?? ]
Other couple of guys who just walked away seeing the broken WINDOW GLASS and didnt attempt to fix it.. are those group of people who are not at all bothered about the problem. They are not cared whether it is a problem or not, whether it effects or not..they just go on . Ex You see people spit in bus stops, throw plastic covers in Parks etc.. but you never make an attempt to think whether they are doing it right or wrong instead you ignore it or sometime you follow it. Again the problem is not fixed, instead ignored [ are you one among them?? ]
Now me, who knows that there is a broken WINDOW GLASS and it is a problem.I know i can fix the problem with some minor tweaks, but i didnt do because it is not effecting me. These group of people are those who are only cared for them alone in the society. Who are not worried about the society. And they are very dangerous because they themself are the problem to the society. ex : If your house area is smelling badly you take risks to clean it but you push the problem to other area thinking your problem is fixed. But you dont worry about the problem that occurs in the other area. Again the problem is not fixed, instead pushed [ are you one among them?? ]
The person who fixed the problem of a BROKEN WINDOW and occupied that place belongs to a very small group of people who exist and care for the society. Who fights for the well of the society with themself. They are group of organization like Rotary clubs or a Individual like salu marada thimmakka. They are born and living for the society. They dont depend on the govt/leader, they dont worry about the people who ignore them, they just want to do and do well [ are you one among them ??]
The last person, who didnt not reattempt to fix the problem of BROKEN WINDOW, when it appeared again belongs to a group of people who fight for the well of the society, who know what is the problem, who implement solution . But they will give up the fight when the problem is stronger than them and conclude that the problem cannot be fixed. [are you one among them?? ]
May be , choosing yourself one among them is not the intention of this article. The main theme here is that there is BROKEN WINDOW problem in evry corner of our society. And near every BROKEN WINDOW there do exist people who belong to all the groups. But the majority is that people dont think that it is there problem, and they want everything to be blamed to GOVT.
When you have the capacity and the smartness to fix the BROKEN WINDOW, then why not you go and attempt it. Why not you go and encourage people for it.
Govt dont ask us to build a PAKKA road , but it asks us to keep the road clean by not throwing plastics, wastes, not spitting .
Govt dont ask us to clean the BIG GARBAGE bins, instead it asks us to dispose the wastes properly, dispose it in the Dust bins only
Govt dont ask us to generate electricity, instead it asks us to save electricty be proper and smart usage.
Govt dont ask us to dig water wells, instead it asks us to save water
very small little thing from a individual will definately make a big difference. We EGB boys have started..
starting with "Say no to Plastics"..
Are you ready!!!
